The Old Dog
Christo Malan is a registered Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and holds a BCom degree from the University of the Free State, an Honours degree in Economics from the University of Pretoria, and an MCom in Business Management from the University of Johannesburg. He began his career at the Reserve Bank of South Africa, later moving to the Development Bank of Southern Africa and Sanlam Investments.
Christo explored new paths and business opportunities two and a half decades ago. Today, that decision has evolved into the Autus Group of Companies and Aboutir Wealth. He has formed new friendships, partnered with diverse businesses, welcomed new employees, and seized numerous opportunities. Despite daily challenges, many of his dreams have come true, and innumerable goals have been achieved.
Christo is passionate about people, asset management, and financial planning. He remains committed to the same values, cherishing life and appreciating those around him. While he is dedicated to his work and thoroughly enjoys it, he also values spending time with his family, engaging in intellectual conversations with close friends, attempting to play golf, or simply relaxing with a good book.
“The Old Dog” is not about impressing anyone, proving anything, or making bold statements. Instead, it reflects the wisdom and experiences Christo has gained over the years. He aims to share valuable insights and exciting topics. Please note that no content should be considered advice or academic work. Feel free to share what you read with family and friends.

In some cases, three generations of the same family are clients. Our award-winning and dedicated team follows the Autus Way, creating wealth for individuals and families to ensure peace of mind.
In 2004, Autus Fund Managers (autusfundmanagers.co.za) was established and has since registered a bouquet of unit trusts catering to all investment needs and risk profiles. With more than 100 years of combined experience and wisdom, the AFM team follows a dedicated decision-making process to ensure excellent long-term investment returns.
Aboutir Wealth was established to enhance “family office” services and offer unique and tailor-made investment solutions.
Autus Fiduciary Services was created to ensure continuous legacy planning through wills, living wills, powers of attorney, and estate services for Autus clients.
The Autus Foundation (a registered non-profit company) seeks to make a difference in the community. The Group contributes a percentage of its income to support worthy causes.

Financial Planning
After gaining extensive experience in the corporate environment and asset management, Christo embarked on a professional journey in financial planning. Today, nearly 25 years later, a highly qualified and experienced team provides a comprehensive service known as the Autus Way of Fiduciary & Financial Planning and Investment Solutions for individuals and families.
The team follows a proven recipe for wealth planning, from the first contact to annual revisions, delivering exceptional Investment Planning (recognised by the London-based International Advisor award in 2022 and 2023) and Excellent Client Service (honoured by the same award for five consecutive years from 2019 to 2023).
At Autus, we understand that every client is unique and focus on their specific needs to ensure financial freedom pre- and post-retirement. We intend not to sell a product but to build long-term relationships based on trust, peace of mind, and professional service. Our clients are more than just clients; they are friends of the office.
